Old Man Wizard Premiere Acoustic Performance of “If Only”

Friday March 14th, Old Man Wizard will appear at the Tin Can San Diego in their first fully acoustic performance in over a year. If you weren’t excited enough by hearing this, we have something to blast your excitement through the roof – the official premiere of their new acoustic video for “If Only” available only on Three B Zine!

Old Man Wizard, a band who’s epic musical journey (and debut) Unfavorable was released in late 2013, are known for their vintage heavy and prog metal-esque sound. Three B Zine Podcast! Co-Host & local music writer Dustin Lothspeich said of the record; “While there’s a certain heaviness to Unfavorable, it’s not an overpowering element – it rides side-by-side, if you will, with a litany of some of the prettiest melodies ever committed to tape.”

The boys of Old Man Wizard, (Francis, Andre and Kris) will be taking these pretty melodies and transforming them into a full acoustic set Friday March 14th at the Tin Can San Diego. From one music fan that has first-hand experience with their acoustic chops, I can vow that the otherwise heavy sounds of OMW translate beautifully into the world of the unplugged.

Below you will find the premiere of their video for their acoustic song “If Only” which can be found on their debut record Unfavorable.

Singer/guitar player Francis Roberts had this to say about the brand new video.

“This is the first of two videos from a rehearsal for our acoustic performance at the Tin Can on Friday, March 14. We decided to go for a very raw, live feel with no audio or video trickery (and a half-dressed set!). Our friend Mike set up a stationary camera and moved around to get other angles to cut between. It was really all an experiment/exercise in getting through the material without any trickery that is all too commonplace in “live” videos these days. As a result, this is essentially WORSE than what you’re getting at the show on Friday; we just put a condenser mic in front of the band and played the songs. This video features “If Only” from our debut LP, and the second will be a cover song. I won’t say which; we might lose fans if they found out we were doing tunes from Disney musicals.”

Old Man Wizard will play first on Friday (9:30 pm), followed by close friends in the folk trio Forkroot (who Francis says are the stars of the night, celebrating the release of their debut album Between Two Cities). Closing the night are the Oceanside-based Americana group Goodnight Ravenswood. It will be an excellent night for a glass of whisky and good company. Admission is only $5 and more information can be found here.
