Fathom Bistro Bait and Tackle – San Diego’s Newest Craft Beer Destination

Fathom Bistro Bait and Tackle set sail into the sea of craft beer on February 2nd, located directly on the pier in Shelter Island San Diego. You will be so close to the water, don’t be surprised if you find yourself rubbing fins and sharing a craft beer with a local fish. Check out our photo gallery of the newest craft beer destination, Fathom Bistro Bait and Tackle.

Shelter Island just got even classier, all thanks to Dennis Borlek and his new establishment, Fathom Bistro Bait and Tackle. It goes without saying that Borlek, who was once manager of the famed Hamilton’s Tavern, knows craft beer. Fathom offers some of the best craft beers, locally and from afar, on 15 taps. For opening night, Fathom shared an impressive draft list including Russian River’s Pliny The Elder, New Albion Pale Ale and the local masterpiece Silva Stout by Green Flash. If this is a sign of things to come, I think we can expect a lot more of these sought after beers from Fathom in the future.

To pair with their tremendous craft beer selection, Fathom serves up delicious, quality food for a price that won’t spear your wallet. Making it one of the best values on Shelter Island. Food items including the World Famous Explodo dog, a Vienna beef hot dog topped with house made kimchi, pepper jack cheese and mustard. Pulled pork sandwiches, also topped with that house made kimchi, as well as bacon wrapped hot dogs and chicken lumpia. Oh, and don’t let us forget the house made sausage sandwiches, including a chicken basil sausage and German bierwurst on a soft roll topped with grilled onion and mustard. (This just happens to be what I tried, paired with a Societe The Harlot.)

Located directly on the pier at 1776 Shelter Island Drive amidst luxury hotels and high priced restaurants, Fathom boasts the highest priced item of them all, which as a guest you can enjoy free of charge. By that, we mean the view. Whether you decide to enjoy a craft beer indoors or on their patio, Fathom delivers million dollar views of America’s Finest City in just about every direction.

Guests are welcome to enjoy craft beer and delicious food on the Fathom patio, which for arguments sake, is the pier. Or of course, in the Fathom dining room, which is a quaint room completely decked out in maritime memorabilia. A few tables line the room, as well as a bar area with seating right in front of a wall sized window, again, delivering stunning ocean views. A large flat panel television plays old time ocean movies while you eat.

Don’t waste another minute in your quest for craft beer bliss. Get your tailfin down to Fathom for a sausage and beer today.
