Pizza Port’s OB 125th Anniversary Pale Ale

To help celebrate 125 years one of the finest beach communities in America’s Finest City, Pizza Port brewed up a special 125th Anniversary Pale Ale. A special ale brewed up for a very special community, Ocean Beach!

As you are probably well aware, Ocean Beach Street Fair will be happening June 23rd. One of the many things to look forward to is the release of Pizza Ports special limited beer – Ocean Beach 125th Anniversary Pale Ale. Currently available at Pizza Port Ocean Beach, it will be available at locations throughout the beach community coming soon. (Look below for locations.) This beer is light in body and big in flavor. A Pale Ale made with Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade and Columbus hops and is said to be “very generously dry hopped”. We went out to get a glass of this limited brew recently and wanted to share our thoughts with you! Plus we were lucky enough to ask Pizza Port Head Brewer Yiga Miyashiro a few questions in regard to his creation.

The ale pours a pretty golden / amber coloring with a nice foamy head to start. As we sipped from our glasses we could see a very noticeable lacing running down the inside. Smells very bright of citrus with hints of a floral, sweet aroma. Slight hop scent along the way. Taste is on par with the scent. Citrus notes from the hops that lend a hand to sweet orange flavorings. The sweetness of this pale ale mixed with the citrus hops is a perfect blend. Hops are not over powering, but are definitely present for the San Diego hop heads. Finishes with a crisp and dry bite leaving you definitely ordering round 2. Light in body but very big in flavor. Everything Head Brewer Yiga Miyashiro wanted to express in this beer was accomplished. A wonderful summer time session pale. Make sure to treat yourself to one while they last.

Now please enjoy our quick interview with Pizza Port Head Brewer, Yiga Miyashiro!

What was your inspiration in creating the OB 125th Anniversary beer?

To make a beer that reflected the community that I work and live in.

In creating a tribute to Ocean Beach in beer form, what were the key elements you wanted to offer in this special brew?

I wanted something that was like OB. Full of flavor and character, but still easy to be around (or drink in the beers case).

Was there a specific style of beer you wanted to create that would fit the Ocean Beach lifestyle?

The Pale Ale that I created for the 125th anniversary beer was designed to be light, dry, and thirst quenching for those long summer beach days, but also have a huge citrus hop profile for the hop heads in OB.

How did the idea come about for Pizza Port to create the 125th Anniversary beer?

The Ocean Beach Main Street Association suggested it to us. Being part of the community we could not think of a better thing to celebrate OB.

Where can we look for this limited release beer?
